Dave Webster presenting the gift to Jan Bequeath, Directory of the Atlanta Chapter of Alzheimer's Association The Alzheimer’s Association, a non-profit organization, was formed in Chicago in 1980 and now has over 200 chapters throughout the United States promoting research to eliminate the disease while providing support services and assistance to individuals with the disease and their families. The Atlanta Area Chapter was formed in 1981. Brother Knight Jim Mammoser joined the Chapter in 1982 when his wife was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He became a Director in 1984 and President in 1988. In 1988 he was also elected to the National Board of Directors on which he served until 1994. He left the Atlanta Area Chapter Board in 1995 after serving also as a full time volunteer in 1994 and 1995. In 1996 and 1997, he again served as a full time volunteer for eight months after a new Executive Director was hired. He is currently on the Chapter’s Finance Committee and volunteer for special projects, particularly the Chapter’s Memory Walk each September. THE ATLANTA ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION The Knight’s of Columbus Council #11402 presented the Atlanta Alzheimer’s Association with a charitable donation on April 17, 2000. Grand Knight, Ed Krise and Financial Secretary, Al Garofalo along with Brother Knights Dave Webster and Jim Mammoser made the presentation to Chapter Director, Jan Bequeath. Jan is a parishioner at All Saint’s Catholic Church. The meeting was very informative. Last year, the chapter assisted more than 14,000 family members and provided educational programs for over 2,500 individuals in a 20 county area in and around metropolitan Atlanta. The chapter has developed a local and national reputation for its leadership in developing innovative models of service delivery to assist individuals, families, and health care providers in confronting the tragedy of Alzheimer’s disease. Brother Dave Webster became involved with the chapter in 1995 as a Human Resources consultant. The chapter has continued to grow and now reaches 54,000 Atlanta individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, their families and caregivers.
